Our mountain holiday begins as we head south to Mt. Rainier National Park; a dormant volcano locked in ice and snow. Views of this 14,411 foot mountain are a thrill. The rolling farmlands hide the violent past of Mt. Rainier and provide incredible views on the way to Paradise. We'll stop at newly refurbished Longmire Visitors Center for an informative ranger talk. Overnight at Paradise Lodge, a historic log inn built in 1917. Two massive fireplaces warm the lobby, richly patterned Native American rugs bring color and texture to the natural building materials and enormous cedar logs support its 50-foot ceiling. Enjoy a four-course dinner and then kick back, crack open a good book and drink in the fresh air amid the new, multimillion dollar renovation.
