A weekend of riotous fun begins as we board Amtrak's Empire Builder for a scenic rail trip through the Cascade Mountains to Bavarian Leavenworth. Spend a wonderful night, and get ready for the big festival. At noon their will be an Oktoberfest procession with Enzian Alpine Horns, dancers, horses and the Bierwangon! Lederhosen accentuates the enormity of the band's bellies as they rally the crowd to sing "Ein mass"–one more beer! Next, we'll head outta town to visit famed Smoke Jumpers, considered the most skilled fire fighters in the U.S. Tour the facility while listening to thrilling stories about their life-threatening jobs. After, we'll check into the Mazama resort for an overnight stay. The lodge has won a fistful of awards for its guestrooms, cuisine and world-class wine list. The next morning, we'll head over the gorgeous North Cascades Highway back home.
