The lead up to Christmas in traditional German towns and the snow-frosted Alps, is the stuff of storybooks -aglow with twinkling lights and dotted with charming vendor stalls, the markets offer a chance to stroll through historic squares with a steaming cup of cider. Enter the realm of gingerbread, Gl hwein and carol singers this winter. See how differently Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland celebrate while taking in the spectacular scenery of the Alps and the Black Forest. Highlights include Innsbruck, where the town bustles with Christmas markets; Salzburg, where the sound of music fills the air and people ice skate under Mozart's statue; Freiburg and the French Alsace region.
