A mile-deep gorge and two-mile-high mountains await on this exciting trip to Lewiston, Idaho. Begin with a scenic trip east to Washington's Wine Country. Enjoy a fabulous night sampling luscious wines and seeing the sights of Walla Walla. The next day, we're off to Lewiston, Idaho. Although the Grand Canyon is the best known canyon in the U.S., it is not the deepest. That honor falls to spectacular, 7,900-foot deep Hells Canyon on the Snake River. Everything about Hells Canyon is BIG. Big whitewater, big waves, big fish, and big, breathtaking views of the wilderness. And we will see it all by jetboat. Part of the pleasure of a jet boat trip is that the licensed pilot provides a running commentary on the Snake River; its fish, the scenery, and the human story of the region, ranging from 7,500 years of Indian life to the colorful, steam paddlewheeler era. Experience an 86 mile round trip on the Snake River to the official entrance of the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. See Cache Creek Ranch and interpretive center maintained by the U.S. Forest Service. Observe ancient Indian petroglyphs, watch for wildlife and enjoy a BBQ. Later, we will head to Coeur d'Alene for a great overnight stay.
